“What is it about love that keeps us going for it despite all heartbreaks and trauma?”

It’s raining outside. We are too lazy to do anything that require movement,so we decide to de-stress out in the balcony watching the rain. You have just sat down next to me with a hot cup of tea and I couldn’t be more happy. May be that’s why I decided to ask questions – just to start off a conversation that will most surely reach nowhere. Well..It never mattered. We just liked the process.

“For some, love is another synonym for hope”, you tell me. ” For them, love could be finally having somebody who care, listen. It could be having somebody to whom they matter”.

“But it sounds to me like you are searching for a remedy”, I interrupt. “You are looking for someone who could heal your past. You are reaching out to a person with so much expectations. Won’t that burden the other person? Do you think it’s healthy?”

You let out a small laugh, slightly taken aback by the speed at which I am shooting questions. But you with your calm undertone, continue, ” Healthy? Hm..I am not sure. But is there any relationship that is completely healthy? .In the end, whether it would work out or not depend heavily upon the other person involved. If it doesn’t workout, that’s another trauma to heal. If it does, that’s old trauma replaced with something beautiful and mellow. Two people could grow better in a relationship also, na?. You pause for a thought and then continue.
But then again,we should also know when to walk out. In many cases, we force ourselves to hold on, we sacrifice too much in the hope it would all get better. We find it difficult to accept love can change or it can fail. That is too toxic. Oh ..god . i don’t know.
You look at me and give the usual confused smile.
“So you mean love is kind of a lucky dip, it’s taking a chance?. It’s deeply hoping somebody would finally understand, somebody would stand by your side and vice versa?” I ask.

“Yup, You could only tell with time. It could be finding a balance, a mid-ground where two people can stay comfortably, each living their own life and together. It’s the same with all kind of relationships – so is it with love “

We both smile, sip the hot tea and watch the rain. We still don’t have answers but we are okay. The rain is beautiful, so is the day, so are we.
